The Community Action Development Corp. of Allentown wants to give students an opportunity to do something different this summer. It runs a Start Your Own Business Camp for students in Grades 8 through 11
During the free, weeklong camp being held at Central Catholic Allentown campus, students meet with professionals who have started their own businesses and learn about startup costs, business models and marketing.
"More jobs are being created by people starting their own businesses," said Dan Bosket, project director of CADC. "The idea [for the business camp] is to plant the seed early and show that this is another option that exists."
The concept for the camp, in its third year, came from a similar program the organization runs for adults, Bosket said.
Students meet from 9 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. In addition to meeting with business owners, they create business models, develop commercials and build a Web site. Students also take field trips to businesses to see how they operate.
CADC will host summer session of the camp Monday through Friday 9:30- 2:30 pm . For more information or to sign up, call 610-433-5703
